2) Taurus

Direction: North

Period: April 21- May 21

Element: Fixed Earth

Planet: Venus

While Aries was an action, Taurus is a reaction. Energy that burst out on all sides is grounded – concentrated to the Earth - and used here. The Day has become longer and its energy becomes stable and productive.

In Aries the plant breaks through the cover of the ground. In Taurus it already accumulates the sun’s energy in its leaves and gives the sunlight a meaning: feeding animals, the green leaves make evolution possible. They pass the impulse of life (light) further.

“Production and stability” are the key words, as well as accumulation, collection, concentration, wealth or monumentality. These features don’t mean egoism necessarily but an important piece of knowledge: things have no sense without a purpose. Taurus concentrates the energy to the essentials, to stabilize survival. The result – material wealth and accumulation – is an investment making the further steps of the cycle possible.

The Prague Taurus is delimitated by the church of St. Klement in Klementinum or the Hotel Intercontinental on the Aries’ side, for example, and by the Old Town Bridge Tower or Straka’s Academy (the seat of Czech government) on the side of Gemini.

The first example is the former cloister Klementinum, a massive complex of buildings (second largest in Prague) with the richest collection of books in the country. Leaves in books are the same for the human mind as green leaves for animals – they contain the chlorophyll of wisdom. In our walks we’ll also speak about Dominicans and Jesuits – religious orders that had their seats in the Klementinum as systems of focusing spiritual energy. They were the Roman Catholic Church’s bodies to concentrate, ground and control the western Europe’s spirituality – in the positive and negative scents of it. The negative or even perverse outcome of it, mirrored in the face of the Prague Zodiac in a truly breathtaking and mesmerizing manner can be also experienced in our walks. Just to hint the flavor: if you take into the account that Taurus is a female sign (sign of Venus) and that the medieval Christian tradition manifested itself primarily by patriarchal suppressing female values – you will be surprised and fascinated at the symbolic force with which the magic Space of Prague Zodiac puts these orders into its Taurus-Venus womb: since there is to say that Dominicans were the founders of the Inquisition. That is of a “spiritual” organization that was torturing and killing all those who disagreed with or fell in disfavor of those who claimed themselves to be the owners and rulers of spirituality of Europe and all the world as their words proved it - and of life in general. That means including women - the witch-hunts were also started by the Dominicans after all…

And Jesuits were the Dominicans’ modern heirs.

In our tours you can also meet the Fixed-Earth-Element of the Old Town Bridge Tower, in whose stone façade a whole textbook of medieval astrology is carved. Under the cloak of binding Christian art. Its builder, after all, was Charles IV.

Further north, across the river, beyond Letná Plain, is Bubenec, once a comfortable settlement of the town’s richest families with luxurious buildings surrounded by greenery and the largest Prague town park, Stromovka - the former Royal Deer Park.
